Amy Winehouse documentary: Watch her sing 'Happy Birthday' at 14

In this never-before-seen clip from the upcoming documentary Amy, a 14-year-old Amy Winehouse serenades a friend with an impressive rendition of “Happy Birthday.” Although the troubled singer is often remembered for her struggles with addiction and her tragic death at age 27, Amy highlights Winehouse’s early days as a talented teenage songstress, illustrating her early path to stardom with home movies and personal photos.

“Generally, people had a negative opinion of Amy Winehouse. She was a joke,” director Asif Kapadia told EW. “Now people see the film and they’re changing their tune.”

Although the film earned rave reviews at the Cannes Film Festival, Winehouse’s family has denounced the documentary, and they issued a statement saying it “is both misleading and contains some basic untruths.”

Amy will be released in select theaters July 3 and open nationwide July 10.
