Dr. Dre's 'The Chronic' to stream on Apple Music

Apple Music’s appeal continues to grow. According to a Rolling Stone report, the service will offer Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, becoming the first streaming service to feature the iconic 1992 hip-hop album.

While it’s not entirely surprising that Dre would choose to make The Chronic available via Apple Music—the Beats founder will host a radio show on the service’s Beats 1 radio station—the decision follows a long legal saga involving the album that cast its future on any streaming service into doubt.

A judge granted Dre digital rights to The Chronic in 2011, but the album didn’t appear on Beats Music when it launched in 2014, despite being included in Beats Electronics’ deal with Apple.

The Chronic‘s inclusion on Apple Music is more good news for the service after a bumpy start. Despite their initial complaints, Taylor Swift and indie labels alike have signed on, and Pharrell will premiere his next single exclusively via the service. Apple Music will be available June 30.
