Tony winners Billy Porter and Brian Stokes Mitchell are joining Audra McDonald in the upcoming Broadway production of Shuffle Along.

Brandon Victor Dixon and Joshua Henry, both Tony nominees, have also been cast in the production, which presents both a revival of the 1921 musical and the backstage story of the show’s history and influence.

Shuffle Along, one of the first all-black shows on Broadway, was created by songwriting team Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake with librettists F.E. Miller and Aubrey Lyles. Porter and Mitchell, Tony Award winners for Kinky Boots and Kiss Me, Kate, respectively, will play Miller and Lyles, while Dixon and Henry will play Sissle and Blake. McDonald, as previously announced, will star as 1920s headliner Lottie Gee, the star of Shuffle Along.

George C. Wolfe is directing and writing a new book for the production, which will be choreographed by Savion Glover. This marks the first time the two have worked together since 1996’s Bring in ‘da Noice, Bring in ‘da Funk.

Previews for Shuffle Along, or, The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, as the show is fully called, will begin March 14, 2016, at the Music Box Theater, with an opening night slated for April 21.
