Great guns a-blazing: Deadwood could make a comeback to HBO.

Though insiders caution that it may be too early to start playing those Al Swearengen drinking games, an HBO spokeswoman confirmed that “preliminary talks” have begun about turning the David Milch western series into a (small screen) movie.

Blame Garret Dillahunt for getting fans riled. The actor who played Francis Wolcott in the series that aired from 2004-06 on HBO posted this tweet today:

He also followed up with a bit of a guilt trip for HBO.

Deadwood, whichfocused on life in the South Dakota town in the late 1800s, boasted an all-star cast of character actors who went on to headline more critically-acclaimed cable shows. Among them: Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane, Molly Parker, John Hawkes, Paula Malcomson, Dayton Callie, Robin Weigart, Kim Dickens, Powers Boothe, Titus Welliver, Anna Gunn, Sarah Paulson, and of course, Dillahunt. Like many HBO dramas back then, it quickly became sick with Emmy noms in categories like best drama, best writing and best acting.
