Ricky Martin slams Donald Trump in scathing op-ed

Add Ricky Martin to the list of celebrities who have spoken out against Donald Trump. On Wednesday, the singer published an op-ed to Univision that blasted Trump over his treatment of Latinos.

“The fact that a guy like Donald Trump, candidate for president of the United States for the Republican Party, has the guts to continue harassing […] the Latino community makes my blood boil,” Martin wrote (translation via Google). “At what point did this character assume that he can make racist, absurd comments — and especially incoherent and ignorant ones — about us Latinos?”

Martin’s piece came one day after Trump had Univision reporter Jorge Ramos ejected from a press conference after Ramos asked a question without being called on first. (“Go back to Univision,” Trump said as Ramos was removed.) The reporter was later allowed reentry into the press conference, and asked Trump about his immigration policies — which include plans to build a wall across the border between Mexico and the United States.

Martin criticized Trump for the Ramos incident in his piece, and then called out his strategies at large.

“Xenophobia as a political strategy is the lowest to what you can get in search of power,” he wrote. “This is an issue that unites us and we need to fight together, not only for us today but for the evolution of humanity and those who come in the future.”

Back in July, America Ferrera wrote an open letter to Trump that thanked the former reality television host for bringing Latinos together with his comments. (Trump said Mexico was sending criminals across the border, including “rapists.”) Eva Longoria has also slammed Trump, and invoked Adolf Hitler while discussing his remarks about Latinos.
