Partisan poster and trailer: Vincent Cassel is an assassin-training commune leader

In the new, Sundance award-winning thriller Partisan (out Oct. 2), Jeremy Chabriel plays an 11-year-old boy living in a closed community whose leader (Vincent Cassel) teaches its children how to raise livestock, grow vegetables, and how to kill.

"In early 2010, I came across a feature article in The New York Times about the child assassin trade in Colombia," says the film's director Ariel Kleiman, in a statement. "The horrific nature of these kids' stories and actions stayed with me months later. When I coincidentally came across a quote from one of my filmmaking heroes, Surrealism master Luis Buñuel, saying something like, 'I couldn't think of a more surreal image than one man shooting another man,' I knew that I needed to follow my gut feeling and that this needed to be a film."
