Firehouse 51 will be heating up this season when Steven R. McQueen’s new character makes his Chicago Fire debut — and EW has the scoop on who’ll be vying for his heart.

The Vampire Diaries alum joins the NBC series as new candidate Jimmy Borelli, who makes a rather inauspicious first impression. Still, both Brett (Kara Killmer) and Chili (Dora Madison) from ambo will take interest in the newbie.

“Brett had a relationship with Cruz [Joe Minoso] last year, and now she’s single, and Chili’s single, and we’re bringing in the McQueen character who’s also single,” executive producer Matt Olmstead tells EW. “Everybody else has dated each other or are in relationships or out of relationships — those are the three most available characters. We’re playing a little bit of a bake-off in terms of who likes the McQueen character. There’s a rivalry between Chili and Brett for his affection, and being friends, one of them defers to the other and fairly quickly we get a nice romance going with Brett or Chili.”

And just because Brett hooked up with Chicago P.D.’s Roman (Brian Geraghty) in the Fire finale, does not mean she’s out of the running. “It was a straight hookup,” says Olmstead. “They had a couple of beers, they were both on the heels of a traumatic event and it was one of those things.”

Chicago Fire returns Tuesday, October 13 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
