'Survivor: Second Chance' player Keith Nale admits he had 'no strategy' last time he played

From the very first day of Survivor: San Juan del Sur it was pretty clear that Keith Nale did not know a whole lot about Survivor. When Val opened up a note at Exile Island with a clue to a hidden immunity idol, Keith made no attempt whatsoever to ask her to share it.

Then, in his most infamous moment, Keith told everyone to “stick to the plan” at Tribal Council, revealing that there indeed was a plan in place, and sending those plans down in flames. So when I spoke with Keith on out location for Survivor: Cambodia—Second Chance I asked him if he had any idea what he was doing strategically last time.

“No strategy,” admitted Keith. “Wesley got me in this so I just showed up for him — what the heck, try to win a million dollars. Well, I tried to do it my way and it got me to fourth place. You’re right, no strategy.”

So what was his biggest mistake last time out? “I think the biggest mistake was not hooking up with someone earlier,” says Keith. “Plus, you can always say ‘stick to the plan’ was a big mistake, That sent Wesley home, You learn, and you learn so much on that first go round. Yeah, I think I need to hook up with somebody this time.”

All of this is not to say Keith had no game in San Juan del Sur. He was great in challenges and pretty darn likable in the social arena as well. Now the question is, can he add some savvy gameplay into the mix? Well, there will be one large adjustment as he will now be playing by himself, as opposed to with his son Wes in the Blood vs. Water season.

“I think that might be a good thing,” says Keith about playing solo. “We’re going to find out here soon enough. Don’t have to worry about Wesley. You gotta worry about number one. Just take care of myself, keep advancing, maybe tweak my game a little bit, which needs it.”

We’ll see if he’s able to do that when the new season kicks off on Sept. 23. In the meantime, check out our Q&A with Keith (complete with in-game footage in the video player at the top of the post). And for more Survivor scoop, follow me on Twitter @DaltonRoss.
