As Huey Lewis sang in “Back in Time,” lightning never strikes twice, but when you capture lightning in a bottle, as Steven Spielberg points out in the new trailer for the documentary Back in Time, it tends to stick around for a long time.

And so the documentary that shares its name with the song written for the original Back to the Future takes a look at how that classic came to be and its enduring legacy in the culture since.

Back in Time includes interviews with the cast and crew of the original film, reminiscing about the production as well as celebrating the fans who have kept the film ever present in the collective consciousness. The documentary also puts a spotlight on those fans, from those willing to attend conventions, restore DeLoreans, or those who were simply inspired in their lives by the film and its memorable characters.

Back in Time is set to hit theaters on Oct. 21 — or Future Day as fans may know it, the day Marty McFly traveled to the future in Back to the Future II.
