Under the guise of the Paul Simon cover band Troubled Waters, the real Paul Simon and his backup band appeared Friday night on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Colbert said he always wanted to perform the whistling solo from “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard,” but that Simon had refused. The host then asked the Troubled Waters lead singer if he ever met Paul Simon.

“Technically no,” Simon replied.

Colbert also asked the singer to call Paul Simon a jerk. Simon obliged, saying, ” You know Paul Simon’s a bit of a jerk.”

Watch the clip above to see Paul Simon play “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard” and Colbert achieve his dream of whistling the solo part and singing with Simon. The musician also performed another tune at the end of the show, which you can see below.
