Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 trailer focuses on Katniss and Prim

A new teaser trailer for the final installment in the Hunger Games franchise has been just released, a reminder to fans how central the sisterly bond between Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and younger sibling Prim (Willow Shields) has been to the successful series.

The two-minute trailer opens with affectionate scenes that have taken place between the two during previous installments, showcasing how Katniss volunteered to take Prim’s place in the arena during the first Hunger Games film, and how her sacrifice eventually led to her status as the face of the Rebellion. Though it’s obvious that the loving relationship between the two — Katniss as the overprotective older sister and Prim as the perennially sweet younger sibling — has remained a constant throughout the bloodshed and destruction of the franchise to date, the trailer hints at a darker turn ahead for the sisters.

“It’s the things we love most that destroy us,” says President Snow, as the trailer segways into a scene from Mockingjay – Part 2 that shows the two sisters dancing and hugging in an open field.

It’s a discreet hint at what director Francis Lawrence has said will be the darkest Hunger Games film to date, though he made major efforts to keep the movie’s PG-13 rating. “What I tried to do was focus on the emotional consequences of violence, and not the blood, guts, carnage and shock value of it,” he told EW earlier this year. “A lot of violence is implied.”

In addition to revealing a brand-new sneak-peek at the upcoming film, the trailer also advertises an important fact for Hunger Games franchise fans: Tickets for Mockingjay – Part 2 go on sale Oct. 1 at 12pm ET/9 am PT, approximately seven weeks before the final chapter in Lionsgate’s mega-grossing series opens.
