20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: X-Men director Bryan Singer announces next venture

Bryan Singer celebrated his 50th birthday by announcing he has put the finishing touches on the script for his latest project: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

The X-Men: Apocalypse director took to Instagram on Thursday to share the news, which included a picture of the completed product.

“A story I’ve wanted to retell since childhood,” Singer wrote. “I promise this will be an epic and emotional adventure for all ages! An adventure very dear to my heart.”

Singer assured X-Men fans he wouldn’t be abandoning the franchise, insisting he was “very excited” about the upcoming installment and “beyond.”

The story for the adaptation is by Singer, as well as Rick Sordelet and Dan Studney, with the screenplay from Sordelet and Studney. Jules Verne penned the original work of Captain Nemo’s underwater, sci-fi adventure. The tale has been adapted previously, most notably in 1954’s Oscar-winning version starring Kirk Douglas and James Mason.
