Larry Wilmore: Donald Trump is like Mussolini

On Thursday’s Nightly Show, Larry Wilmore devoted significant coverage of Wednesday’s GOP debate to — who else? — Donald Trump. When simply displaying a photo of Trump made Wilmore and the audience giggle, the host referred to Trump’s expression as “resting smug face. … Like he’s thinking everybody is a loser.” Wilmore pointed out that “you can freeze-frame almost any image and he has that look on his face,” asking, “You know who he reminds me of?”

Wilmore then cut to a split-screen of Mussolini and Trump, both displaying similar facial expressions. “Losers!” Wilmore said, imitating Trump as Mussolini. “The allied powers are losers!”

And the Nightly Show host did not allow for any ambiguity about his intentions. “For everybody out there who’s saying, ‘Larry, are you really comparing Trump to Mussolini?’ Yes. That’s exactly what I’m doing. I just did that. It’s kinda fun, actually.”

Wilmore also addressed Trump’s answer to the question of whether he’s too hot-headed to handle the nuclear codes, a response which began with, “Rand Paul shouldn’t even be on this stage. He’s number 11.” So, Wilmore offered up a tip: “When someone asks you if you’re responsible enough to have access to the buttons of our nuclear arsenal, your answer should not be to randomly attack someone.”
