Emmys 2015: Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus on Kim Davis

Selina Meyer has some choice words for not having any choice words.

Backstage at the Emmy Awards press room on Sept. 20, Veep Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus (who tag-teamed the press stage with Mom winner Allison Janney) was asked how President Selina Meyer might react to Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who made headlines for refusing to acknowledge the Supreme Court’s ruling granting marriage equality.

“I’ll tell you something,” Dreyfus began, as Janney slowly backed away.

“I think that President Meyer would find a very effective way of not expressing an opinion,” Louis-Dreyfus continued, smiling. “Straddling the subject, so to speak. And I think she would applaud her right to not do what she did and at the same time, talk about the law being the law of the land and at the end of the day, not say one goddamned thing.”

During the telecast, Louis-Dreyfus won her fourth consecutive leading actress Emmy for playing inept vice president-turned-president-turned-who-knows on HBO’s Veep.
