Serena Williams, Amy Schumer, Yoko Ono shot for 2016 Pirelli Calendar by Annie Leibovitz

While the Pirelli Calendar typically hand-picks marquee models to be featured, the 2016 version is going to be different.

Annie Leibovitz is shooting next year’s version, which will feature Serena Williams, Amy Schumer, Ava DuVernay, Yoko Ono, and Patti Smith, among others. In a statement to People, the photographer, who has a rather iconic catalogue, said, “This calendar is so completely different. It is a departure. The idea was not to have any pretense in these pictures and be very straightforward.”

“I started to think about the roles that women play, women who have achieved something,” Leibovitz added. “I wanted to make a classic set of portraits. I thought that the women should look strong but natural and I decided to keep it a very simple exercise of shooting in the studio.”
