Goosebumps movie: Jack Black's R.L. Stine gives a warning in new clip

Funnyman Jack Black portrays horror writer R.L. Stine in the upcoming Goosebumps movie, which brings to life all of the author’s most terrifying monstrosities. In this new clip from the film, Black (as Stine) explains just how real those creatures can become.

“When I was younger, I created my own friends — monsters, demons — to terrorize my neighborhood and all the kids that made fun of me,” he says in the footage. “And they became real to me. And then one day they actually became real.”

The real R.L. Stine spoke with EW in a recent interview about the Goosebumps movie. “Since I’m the main character, I had a lot of input as to how I was treated and how they handled me,” he said. “I read the script, making sure that it had that combination of horror and humor that I do in the Goosebumps books, that it wasn’t just a horror movie. That was really important to me. So yes, I had a lot of input in that script.”

The Goosebumps clip also features Dylan Minnette (Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good,Very Bad Day), Odeya Rush (The Giver), and Ryan Lee (Trophy Wife). Jillian Bell (22 Jump Street), Amy Ryan (The Office), and Ken Marino (Netflix’s Wet Hot America Summer: First Day of Camp) also star.

The film sees a young boy move with his mom to a new town, where he comes across his creepy next-door neighbor’s book collection. As it turns out, his neighbor is Stine and his books, when opened, unleash real versions of his literary monsters.

Goosebumps will hit theaters on Oct. 16.
