Patti Smith working on more books, plays Because The Night with David Remnick

Patti Smith’s new memoir, M Train, is already debuting to rave reviews. When the famous musician/poet took the stage at New Yorker Festival this weekend, she revealed that she’s got many more books planned – and not just memoirs, either.

According to Vulture, Smith told New Yorker editor-in-chief David Remnick that she is working on a companion to Just Kids, her award-winning story of life with gay photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, this time focusing on her husband Fred Smith. But she’s got other projects in the works as well, including a detective novel, a collection of poetry, and even a YA book.

“I’m always just working. I have tons and tons and tons of unpublished material,” Smith reportedly said at the panel. “I’m gonna be like Dorothy Parker when I die, people are going to go, Holy sh–, it’s totally indecipherable.”

The best part of the panel may have come at the end, however, when Remnick accompanied Smith on guitar for a rendition of her hit song (the one originally written by Bruce Springsteen), “Because the Night.” Watch the video below.
