New Line plots 'Met Gala Heist movie

New Line Cinema is casing the joint for fashion’s biggest night.

The Warner Bros. unit has acquired the spec script Met Gala Heist, a caper set at the star-studded New York City fundraising event, EW has confirmed. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.

Written by Gregg Rossen and Brian Sawyer, the story follows two estranged sisters who assemble an all-female team to stage a heist during the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute benefit. In other words, imagine Ocean’s Eleven meets The Devil Wears Prada.

Michelle Sy (Finding Neverland) is producing.

Attended by Hollywood celebrities, Wall Street power brokers, fashion moguls, and other boldface names, the Met Gala is the party of the year in the New York social scene, and last year generated almost $12 million.

The Met Gala is also the subject of a forthcoming documentary by Andrew Rossi (Page One, Ivory Tower), which is to chronicle the creation of the most recent benefit and corresponding exhibition, China: Through the Looking Glass.
