CBS has given a straight-to-series order to American Gothic, a murder mystery from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television, EW has learned.

American Gothic follows a prominent Boston family that is attempting to redefine itself in the wake of a chilling discovery that links their recently deceased patriarch to a string of murders spanning decades, amid the mounting suspicions that one of them may have been his accomplice.

Corinne Brinkerhoff will write and executive produce alongside Amblin’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank, as well as James Frey.

“With American Gothic, Corinne Brinkerhoff has created the perfect CBS summer mystery, filled with suspense, intrigue and an explosive ending that will leave you breathless,” CBS Entertainment President Glenn Geller said. “It feels like a compelling summer novel that we can deliver to our viewers in 13 one-hour chapters.”

American Gothic is slated to debut in summer 2016, joining the recently renewed Zoo, as well as new drama BrainDead. Former CBS summer programming Under the Dome and Extant were both recently canceled.
