With just nine days before “Future Day,” the dream of a mass-marketed floating skateboard is still a ways off (although the brainiacs at Lexus are working on it).

Until that dream is realized, we’ll have to tide ourselves over with Universal’s new hoverboard faux commercial, released just in time to hype the 30th-anniversary home video re-release of the Back to the Future trilogy.

The minutelong clip features a dreadlocked sk8r-bro extolling the virtues of “the first-ever skateboard that’s always catching air,” though movie fans already know how handy they are for scooting around town, dodging bullies, and saving the time-space continuum. (Just remember, they don’t work on water unless you’ve got power).

The hoverboard spot comes as the latest in a series of retrofuturistic BTTF promos, including real cans of Pepsi Perfect and a fake trailer for Jaws 19.

Watch the hoverboard commercial above as you wait patiently for the future to arrive.
