Michael Strahan's Wake Up Happy: 5 pieces of life advice

Michael Strahan shares quite a few nuggets of wisdom with readers in his new book, Wake Up Happy: The Dream Big, Win Big Guide to Transforming Your Life, as he chronicles his transition from NFL legend to morning talk show host. Strahan peppers his chapters with comical anecdotes, which accompany everything from German dessert descriptions (“Don’t even get me started on the Berliner, which are like jelly donuts — if jelly donuts were made in heaven, by angels.”) to Coldplay helping him deal with Giants head coach Tom Coughlin (“Am I part of the cure? Or am I part of the disease?”).

The book, due out Tuesday, includes 18 chapters, one for each of “Strahan’s Rules,” which set him up to be the cheeriest coach we’ve encountered. See five of our favorite Strahan rules below.

Rule #4

It’s natural to have doubts. But hit pause before you out-and-out quit.

Rule #7

Ask yourself, “Am I the man or the woman that I hoped to be?” If you want to be more, then you’ve got to do more.

Rule #11

You can’t change other people, but you can change how you are around them, and sometimes, a lot of times, that’s more than enough.

Rule #15

Don’t approach your personal renovation without the right partner in your corner, not only encouraging you but also telling you the hard stuff, someone who will be brutally honest with you.

Rule #17

There’s more power in your attitude than in your bank account.
