Tracy Morgan does stand-up for first time since accident

Tracy Morgan’s road to recovery continued on Monday night. The comedian took the stage at two New York comedy clubs, marking his first stand-up appearances since the June 2014 car accident that left him in a coma and killed his friend James McNair.

The comedian and 30 Rock alum tweeted a picture of himself on the stage at the Comedy Cellar and wrote: “My first time on stage in 16 Months at the #ComedyCellar! Picking up the pieces!”

Morgan had the support of fellow 30 Rock alum Judah Friedlander, who tweeted a photograph with the caption, “T Money is back!!!!!!!!”

Soon after, The Stand Comedy Club posted an Instagram photo of Morgan on stage.

And, it seems, the Morgan was a tough act to follow. Comedian Mike Lawrence tweeted, “Followed Tracy Morgan’s amazing first time back on stage. Now I can answer the question ‘how do you go up after a triumph of human spirit?'”

A year after the accident, Morgan gave his first interview to Matt Lauer on the Today Show and talked tearfully about his recovery, revealing that he was still suffering from memory loss, headaches and nosebleeds. He also promised that he would return to stand-up. “I love comedy, I’ll never stop loving her,” he said. “I can’t wait to get back to her. But my goal now is just to heal. I’ll get back to making you laugh, I promise.”

Morgan made an emotional appearance on the Emmys stage last month, and has another big TV gig set for this weekend when he hosts Saturday Night Live, a show on which he served as a cast member from 1996 to 2003.
