Agent X might be able to handle situations the FBI and CIA won’t tackle, but off-screen, the man behind the secret operative has some fears.

“I think of him as the guy as like, if he had a daughter and I had to go ask her out, I would just not,” Jeff Hephner told EW of his Agent X costar Gerald McRaney at New York Comic Con. “I’d be like, I can’t. He scares the sh– out of me.”

McRaney plays Malcolm Millar, the chief steward to Vice President Natalie Maccabee (Sharon Stone). “She doesn’t mess around,” Hephner says of Stone. “She’s been doing this along time. She knows what she’s doing. “

In terms of his on-screen relationship with the Basic Instinct star, Hephner says the VP sends Agent X out into the world to “kick everybody’s ass.” Agent X serves as her secret weapon, who the president doesn’t even know exists.

Hephner also teases another secret from the upcoming TNT series. “There’s a romance on the table between me and James Earl Jones,” he jokes. “I think America is ready for it.”
