Pizza Rat Blvd. takes over Brooklyn street for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

A few weeks ago, the enterprising rodent known as Pizza Rat nearly got a whole slice of New York ‘za all to himself. For one brief, shining moment Thursday, he got his own street.

Eagle-eyed Brooklynites like Fred Benenson first noticed the appearance of a green street sign for “Pizza Rat Blvd.” outside 3 Roots, a juice bar generally regarded as being at the corner of Franklin and India streets. “Finally, #PizzaRat gets the recognition he deserves,” Benenson wrote on Instagram.

Alas, glory is fleeting, and Pizza Rat Blvd. has already been taken down. It turns out the sign was actually a prop for Tina Fey and Ellie Kemper’s Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, according to a 3 Roots employee who spoke to ABC News. “They had notified us about it in advance,” the employee said. “It was only up for a few hours. There’s always a lot of filming around in the area.”

As ABC News notes, area residents or businesses could technically collect signatures and submit a petition to immortalize Pizza Rat on an actual street name, should they be so inclined.

If not, Pizza Rat will live on in our hearts, and on Netflix.
