Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker recounts 2008 plane crash in new interview

Travis Barker is still feeling the effects of the 2008 plane crash that left him severely burned and four dead. The Blink-182 drummer talked to Good Morning America on Tuesday about his mental and physical struggles since, and how it’s affected his two children as well.

“It was just hard for them to see me in the state that I was in,” said Barker, who went through 27 surgeries and was in burn centers for four months following the crash. “They color in class, and everyone’s drawing pictures of their family or what they did on the weekend, and Landon’s drawing a picture of a plane crashing.”

Barker hasn’t been on a plane since then — he takes the Queen Mary 2 for overseas trips — but is hopeful that one day he’ll get back in the air. “I tell my children, ‘When you’re ready to fly, I’m ready to fly.'”
