The Band Perry on 'Heart + Beat': 'We're pop-tarts at heart'

The Band Perry closed out Saturday’s inaugural EW Fest in style: with an intimate performance of the group’s past hits and a first-listen at new music.

“We’ve had such a great time [making our new record],” singer Kimberly Perry told EW senior editor Kevin O’Donnell before the band’s concert. “We’re always chasing authenticity, every single album that we put forward.”

Called Heart + Beat, the new album is expected to arrive later this year, and marks a departure for the sibling group, which shot to fame thanks to the crossover hit “If I Die Young.”

“We grew up on so many different styles of music — everything from Michael Jackson to Loretta Lynn to The Rolling Stones,” Perry said. “This third effort really has us embracing more of our pop side than we have previously. We’re pop-tarts at heart.”
