Keanu Reeves’ hard-boiled assassin John Wick is coming out of retirement once again, but this time around he’ll have steeper competition than Russian mobsters.

Common has been cast as the primary antagonist for John Wick 2, the much-anticipated sequel to last year’s surprise action hit. Plot details are scarce for the sequel (such as whether another dog will be killed), but Common’s role is described as “the movie’s chief villain, a head of security for a female crime lord.” The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report the news.

Although he’s primarily known for being a rapper, Common has also built up a diverse acting resume, ranging from awards contenders like Selma (for which he also co-wrote the Oscar-winning song “Glory”) to action movies like Run All Night.

John Wick 2 is set to begin shooting this week. As previously announced, David Leitch will not be returning for the second film. His co-director (and former Reeves stunt double) Chad Stahelski will helm John Wick 2 solo.
