Kurt Cobain's 'Unplugged' cardigan and a lock of his hair are up for auction

Kurt Cobain’s iconic cardigan from Nirvana’s 1993 acoustic performance can be yours for a modest fee. The olive sweater worn during the group’s MTV Unplugged in New York gig is up for sale at Julien’s Auctions, the Los Angeles-based auction house. To ensure accuracy, the buyer will receive a “signed letter of authenticity and provenance from the Cobain family friend.” The item is slated to be sold for between $40,000 and $60,000 and sits at $20,000 as of this posting.

It’s not the only item of the late musician’s up for sale: Ardent fans can grab a 10-inch lock of Cobain’s hair. The snippet was originally given to doll maker and artist Dame Darcy by Courtney Love, Cobain’s widow. According to the item description, “Love became a client and commissioned a doll for her daughter Frances using Cobain’s hair. This lock was the hair that remained once the doll was made.” The price estimate is between $8,000 and $10,000 and currently sits at $4,000.
