Carrie Brownstein — queen of cool, Sleater-Kinney frontwoman, and author of the memoir Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girljust got cooler: On Tuesday night, during the Pasadena, California stop on her book tour, a couple raised their hands with a question for Brownstein. Would she, a licensed wedding officiant, officiate their wedding — right then and there?

Brownstein agreed, calling the couple, Kendall Oshiro and Genevieve Hernandez, to the stage where she had been discussing her book with Amy Poehler. Poehler immediately grabbed flowers from the stage and handed them to the couple, then raced to the piano to play “Greensleeves,” according to Glory Plata, Brownstein’s rep at Riverhead. In a spontaneous speech, Brownstein said, “In the way that we always root for ourselves, in the way that we root for love to always win out over despair, for hope to win out over fear, all of us here are rooting for you…. With the power vested in me by the state of California, I now pronounce you married.”

The Pasadena event was held at Central Presbyterian Church, in partnership with Vroman’s Books.
