American Crime season 2 premiere date

The return of American Crime is not far away. ABC announced on Friday that the second season of the anthology crime show will premiere Wednesday, Jan. 6.

Season 2 shifts from murder in California to a high school athletics scandal in Indiana that focuses on sexual identity and the broken school system. A boy sees pictures of him leaked online after a night where two basketball players from a private high school purportedly drugged and assaulted him. Basketball coach Dan Stevens (Timothy Hutton) struggles to retain his sports family tightly knit while his personal one frays. The private school’s headmistress (Felicity Huffman) attempts to weather the controversy of the incident and its ensuing backlash.

The first season of John Ridley’s anthology drama debuted in March to wide acclaim 10 Emmy nominations, earning a win for Regina King as best supporting actress in a limited series. Hutton, King, Huffman, Lili Taylor, and Elvis Nolasco are all holdovers from the inaugural season. New to the regular cast are Trevor Jackson, Connor Jessup, Joey Pollari, and Angelique Rivera. Season 2’s guest stars include Andre Benjamin (a.k.a. rapper Andre 3000), Hope Davis, and season 1 breakout Richard Cabral.

American Crime premieres Jan. 6 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
