Like sands through the hourglass, so are the last 50 years that we've reveled in the ever-escalating drama of NBC's only remaining daytime soap opera, Days of Our Lives.

With a half a century under it's belt, Days of Our Lives is one of the longest-running shows on television. Only some news and sports programs have run longer, along with since-cancelled soap operas Guiding Light and As the World Turns. General Hospital is the only soap opera still airing that outranks Days, by a margin of three years.

As the soap gears up for a killer celebration for its 50th anniversary, take some time to look way back to the show's very first episode. It aired on Nov. 8, 1965. The legendary drama begins with Julie Olson (Charla Doherty), Diane (Geraldine Lawrence), and Carol (Simone Pascal) stealing a fur from a department store, only to be caught by a detective (Robert J. Stevenson) and the store clerk (Phil Mansour).

Prepare to get transported back to the '60s, and watch the first five minutes of the nostalgia-packed first episode of Days of Our Lives to celebrate its 50 years on air.
