Le Bataclan makes first statement since Paris attacks

Le Bataclan, the Parisian theatre where 89 people were killed on Friday night, has made its first public statement since the attacks.

Via the venue’s social media accounts, representatives posted a note, which reads (via translation): “Dear friends, No words is enough to express the magnitude of our grief. Our thoughts are with the victims, the injured and their families. Many of you have wanted to gather in remembrance at the Bataclan. Unfortunately, the authorities still need to work at the site. We will keep you informed as soon as it is possible to you gather in front of the room. We thank you for your support which affects us deeply.”

The music venue, which hosted an Eagles of Death Metal show that night, was only one site of terror attacks in Paris on Friday. At least 129 people were killed throughout the city as there were shootings in a restaurant, near the Stade de France soccer stadium, and in the Les Halles mall. Overall, 352 people were injured in the violence.

The attackers took hostages at the Bataclan, which has a capacity of roughly 1,200 people, and held them until police seized the concert hall and freed concertgoers. Eagles of Death Metal band members were all confirmed safe after the show, but their merch manger Nick Alexander was one of the victims who died during the attack.
