Vincent “Don Vito” Margera, uncle of Bam Margera and a fixture of the Jackass franchise, died early Sunday, TMZ reports. He was 59.

Margera had been diagnosed with kidney and liver failure in recent years, according to TMZ. He went into a coma in October.

He died at about 6:45 a.m., Bam’s mother told TMZ.

Margera’s reality TV career, appearing not only in Jackass but also on Bam’s MTV spin-off, Viva La Bam and others, was defined by his theatrical, lascivious, sometimes short-fused personality.

His nickname, “Don Vito,” was a reference to the slurry speech patterns he seemingly shared with the Godfather patriarch.

But Margera’s appearances ground to a halt following his 2007 conviction on two counts of child sexual assault after groping two underage girls at an autograph signing.

As part of his sentencing then, Margera was ordered not to appear as Don Vito for 10 years, according to the Associated Press.

A rep for Bam did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
