Tom Petty gets his own SiriusXM channel

Set your SiriusXM dials to channel 31 on Friday: Tom Petty is launching his own station. SiriusXM announced Tuesday that Tom Petty Radio is coming, boasting music from his extensive career, unreleased studio and live tracks, covers of Petty tracks, and even full live concerts.

“We are so honored and grateful to SiriusXM for giving our fans access to all of our music, from our biggest hits to very obscure tracks only available through this channel,” Petty said in a statement. “I intend to be very hands on and supply brand-new exclusive tracks as well as rarities from our vaults. Our biggest hope is for a channel that is always entertaining in the way only radio can be.”

In addition to all that, new and prior episodes of Petty’s radio show, Tom Petty’s Buried Treasure, will be aired. Interviews conducted by Rolling Stone writer David Fricke with Petty will also appear, as will guest DJ slots from some of Petty’s contemporaries, like Jackson Browne and Roger McGuinn of The Byrds.

“We are truly thrilled to be creating a new music channel with one of the biggest names in the history of rock and roll,” SiriusXM president and CCO Scott Greenstein said in a statement. “Now with his own channel, Tom can spread his wings playing his incredible music from multiple decades, the familiar and the rare, as well as a broad range of other artists in rock and R&B.”

The station’s logo was designed by Shepard Fairey, the creator of clothing brand Obey and designer of the 2008 Barack Obama “Hope” poster.

Tom Petty Radio debuts on Friday at 6 p.m. ET on SiriusXM channel 31 and through the SiriusXM App on smartphones and other connected devices.
