Everyone has one item from their childhood that ties them to their earliest memories of more carefree days. For Dolly Parton, that memento is a patchwork jacket handmade by her mother.

In the latest trailer from her holiday TV movie Coat of Many Colors, a young Dolly Parton, played by Alyvia Alyn Lind, finds her voice again following her mother’s miscarriage thanks to the coat. “Your songbird lost her voice, and you’re the only one who can help her find it,” Dolly’s onscreen father (Ricky Schroder) says to her mother (Jennifer Nettles) in the video, which People debuted Wednesday.

Parton’s mom had intended the jacket as a blanket for her unborn baby, but she reworked the piece to make a jacket for her youngest daughter.

“My favorite song that I’ve ever written tells a true story from my childhood about a little coat that my mama made for me,” Parton says in introducing the clip.
