Ryan Gosling wanted to play Neil Armstrong

• One small step for Ryan Gosling, one giant leap for mankind? The actor is reportedly being eyed by Whiplash director Damien Chazelle to lead a Neil Armstrong biopic from Spotlight writer Josh Singer. First Man, adapted from James Hansen‘s biography of Armstrong, is still in the writing process, but would reunite Gosling and Chazelle, who are currently shooting the musical La La Land with Emma Stone. • Mark Ruffalo is narrating and executive producing Dear President Obama, a documentary about the president’s energy and climate change policies. Ruffalo, a long-time advocate for slowing climate change, boarded the project because he strongly disagreed with Obama’s initiatives, saying “he is almost worse than climate-change deniers.” Director Jon Bowermaster‘s film will dig into fracking, drilling, and possible green energy alternatives. • The Billionaire Boys Club buoyed by Ansel Elgort, Taron Egerton, and Kevin Spacey adds Suki Waterhouse (Insurgent). She will play Quintana, a romantic interest of Dean Karny (Egerton). Captain Mauzner‘s script details the up and downs of Karny and Joe Hunt’s (Elgort) titular Ponzi scheme, based on real events. After Ron Levin’s (Spacey) investment fell through, Hunt killed Levin and was convicted of murder. James Cox (Wonderland) directs. [Variety]
• Kevin James‘ first Netflix movie nabbed its female lead in Zulay Henao. The If Loving You Is Wrong actress will star across from James in True Memoirs of an International Assassin, a story about an accountant confused for an actual jet-setting killer after his novel is published in the nonfiction section. Henao takes on a DEA agent who ends up blowing her cover to save James. Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) directs off Jeff Morris‘ script, and shooting begins this month in Atlanta and the Dominican Republic. • Recurring New Girl actor Satya Bhabha fills out the Lucy Hale-starring comedy Dude. The indie, directed by Olivia Milch, details four best friends (Hale, Alexandra Shipp, Kathryn Prescott, Nora Lum) during their last two weeks of high school. Bhabha will play a teacher one of the four girls has a crush on. [The Wrap]
