Darren Aronofsky teams with JR on Paris art installation during U.N. Climate Change Conference

World leaders converge on Paris this week for a major conference on climate change. There’s a lot riding on the outcome of this conference, and director Darren Aronofsky wanted these government leaders to know the world is watching. To make the point, he teamed up with French artist JR for a public art installation titled Standing March. The piece is a video installation featuring more than 500 individuals from around the globe, combined to illustrate the idea that “the world is watching” the outcome of these talks. According to the artists, there is no more debate about whether climate change is real or not; the question is what steps must be taken to combat it.

“The facts have been settled and the answer is clear,” Aronofsky said in a statement. “We must back the world leaders who are here in Paris working for the future of our planet. We expect decisions, we expect commitments, and we expect timeframes. It’s about people, from Tuvalu to New Orleans, whose lives are threatened by climate change. The world depends on a solution.”

Standing March will tour throughout Paris for the duration of the conference, from Dec. 1-7. Locations will be announced on the artists’ social media accounts.
