If anyone can stop the Darkness, it’s … Lucifer?

Supernatural fans were treated to a pleasant surprise when the promo for the show’s midseason finale featured none other than Mark Pellegrino, the man who inhabited the role of Lucifer in the show’s fifth season. Now, six seasons later, it seems that getting Lucifer out of the cage might be Sam and Dean’s only way to defeat the Darkness. At least, that’s what Sam claims God told him.

Another surprising moment in the promo? Dean kissing Amara. To reiterate: Dean kisses the Darkness, the most evil thing in all the land. (Also, what will God have to say about Dean kissing his sister?)

Supernatural‘s midseason finale airs Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
