Melissa Rauch's raunchy gymnastics comedy The Bronze nails 2016 landing

The Bronze, the raunchy gymnastics comedy that was a hit at last year’s Sundance Film Festival, has finally landed a release date. The film, which stars Melissa Rauch as a former Olympian gymnast still milking her 15 minutes of fame, was picked up at Sundance by Relativity Studios — which subsequently entered bankruptcy. Sony Pictures Classics has rescued the film and will now release it in theaters on March 18.

Co-written by Rauch and directed by Bryan Buckley, The Bronze tells the story of down-on-her-luck gymnast Hope Ann Greggory, who once led the U.S. team to win a bronze medal that seemed out of their grasps by performing her routine on a torn Achilles. Hope Ann became a hero in her hometown of Amherst, Ohio, and rested on her laurels in the small town for years. Now, Hope Ann is tasked with training a new rising gymnastics star named Maggie, played by Haley Lu Richardson (Ravenswood), and has to decide if she will actually help the young gymnast achieve the stardom she could never quite hold onto — or sabotage her to maintain her hometown hero status.

The film also stars Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Gary Cole (Office Space), and Cecily Strong (Saturday Night Live).
