Yahoo Screen shut down, former home of Community

The place where Community fans gathered to watch the sixth season of their favorite show is no more. EW has confirmed that Yahoo has shut down Yahoo Screen, the one-time savior of Community, which served as a hub for all of the company’s originals and syndicated programming. (In other words, it’s that place where you streamed live sport sporting events and watched Saturday Night Live clips.)

But before fans begin to panic, this isn’t the end of video for Yahoo. It’s simply the end of the video hub. The company will reportedly be moving its video properties to its many different digital magazines. For example, any original series, such as Sin City Saints, can be found in Yahoo!’s TV section. Likewise, any concerts from Yahoo! Screen’s Live Nation channel will now exist in the site’s music section.

Now, the question remains: What will become of Community? Creator Dan Harmon, who once called Yahoo the show’s Daddy Warbucks, told EW in June: “I told Yahoo, ‘I can’t think about writing a movie until I miss Community. They wanted to turn around and do a movie immediately, and Yahoo can get it done. They’re like the NSA.”

Let’s hope “six seasons and a movie” is still a possibility now that Yahoo Screen, which launched in September of 2013, is no more.
