SXSW: Pee-wee's Big Holiday, Seth Rogen's Preacher to premiere

A quirky man-child, a supernatural cleric, a self-help sage, and a creepy Internet meme are headed to the SXSW Film Conference and Festival.

Organizers have announced that Netflix’s comedy Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s series Preacher, and the documentaries Beware the Slenderman and Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru will make their world premieres at the Austin, Texas-based gathering in March.

Big Holiday marks the return of Paul Reubens as his gray-suited alter ego, with John Lee directing, while Preacher is an episodic adaptation of the twisted ’90s comic about a small-town Texan minister who merges with a celestial creature.

Joe Berlinger directs Tony Robbins, a portrait of the famous motivational speaker, and Irene Taylor Brodsky explores an online Boogeyman with chilling real-world reach in Slenderman.

SXSW will also feature the North American premiere of Jeff Nichols’ Midnight Special and a screening of Athina Rachel Tsangari’s Chevalier. The films join the previously announced opener, Everybody Wants Some, from Richard Linklater.

The festival runs March 11-20.
