Avengers: Infinity War characters unite for two-part Marvel story, tease directors

After Captain America: Civil War, directors Joe and Anthony Russo will go on to helm the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, which takes inspiration from the comics that unite Marvel’s heroes against the all-powerful Thanos.

The directors couldn’t confirm whether or not folks like Peter Quill and his Guardians would make an appearance, but they teased to ComicBook.com that “people will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie.”

Joe Russo continued, “The concept of Infinity War is that the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you’ve ever seen, and we’re going to honor that concept.”

The greatest threat is Thanos, voiced by Josh Brolin. So far, he’s popped up in the post-credits scenes for both Avengers films and in Guardians of the Galaxy as he hunts for the six Infinity Stones.

“We’re just going to approach the cosmic side with the same fervor that we did the earthbound work we’ve been doing,” Joe said, teasing a focus on “psychological realism,” Russo continued. “Also, it’s going to be our focus to explore the cosmic side, applying the same rules that we like to apply to the last two films that we’ve done. It ends up being the rules of physics always apply or apply as much as we can get them to apply based on what we’re doing.”

Part 1 of Infinity War is scheduled for May 4, 2018, while Part 2 will drop on May 3, 2019.
