Megan Mullally cast in Bryan Cranston, James Franco comedy Why him

  • Megan Mullally is going to be hitched to Bryan Cranston. The former Will & Grace actress is the newest to join Why Him, a comedy from director John Hamburg (I Love You Man). Cranston and his Midwest family travel to his daughter at college, where he finds himself competing with his daughter’s smarmy tech billionaire boyfriend (James Franco). Mullally will play Beth Fleming, the wife of Cranston’s Ned. Shooting begins in Los Angeles next month. [Deadline]
  • The Tupac biopic All Eyez On Me keeps bolstering its cast. The Wire alum Jamie Hector has signed up to play Mutulu Shakur, the late rapper’s stepfather. Demetrius Shipp Jr. will play Tupac in Benny Boon‘s biopic. The Walking Dead‘s Danai Gurira and Kat Graham were recently added, stepping in the shoes of Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur and Jada Pinkett Smith, respectively. The project is shooting in Atlanta.   • Colin Hanks is tackling a football movie with some ace NFL players. He and production partner Sean Stuart, along with three players (former star Troy Polamalu; the retired Jordan Gross; and the active Ryan Kalil) are creating a feature about football players in American Samoa. Jim Burnstein and Garrett Schiff (Love and Honor) are writing the script, detailing an assistant coach’s experience in the ’80s when he traveled there and uncovered a trove of untapped prospects.   • Transparent actress Melora Hardin will endure Cruel Hearts from writer-director Paul Osborne. The movie details a man (Alev Aydin) realizing a woman he’s been seeing is married to a big-time crime lord (Patrick Day). He reveals the arrangement to the boss, and the two become friends. The movie, also starring Eddie Jemison and Bonnie Root, is shooting now in L.A. [Variety]
  • The Titan, a sci-fi feature from Lennart Ruff adds a trio to its crew: Diego Boneta (Scream Queens), Aleksandar Jovanovic (Collide), and Agyness Deyn (Hail, Caesar!). They join Sam Worthington, Taylor Schilling, and Tom Wilkinson on the adventure of a relocated military family, undergoing a revolutionary experiment of humans’ evolution in space. Production on Max Hurwitz (Hell On Wheels), set from producer Arash Amel’s (Grace of Monaco) original story, begins Feb. 1 in the Canary Islands. [Deadline]
  • Bad Santa 2 is underway, but it had a late cast addition in Cristina Rosato (Territories). She’ll play Alice in the sequel to the 2003 Billy Bob Thornton comedy. Kathy Bates and Christina Hendricks also star in director Mark Waters (Mean Girls) project. [Deadline]
