Supernatural: Dean and Cas face off against Lucifer in the cage

The last time we saw Sam and Dean, well, they weren’t together. Sam had made his way down to Hell in an attempt to talk to Lucifer about how to stop the Darkness. But spoiler: The visions weren’t God’s way of telling Sam to talk to Lucifer. Instead, they were yet another manipulation from the fallen angel himself.

So it was no surprise when he managed to trap our beloved Sam in the cage with him. And with Dean’s no-Winchester-left-behind policy, it’s only a matter of time until he tries to rescue his brother. More specifically, it’s happening in Supernatural‘s winter premiere.

Newly released photos from the episode not only show Dean in the cage with Lucifer, but Castiel is at his side. And although we’ve seen these three work together to defeat Lucifer before, it’s doubtful they’ll be able to do it again — especially in such a confined space — which is why a good number of these photos involve blood.

Supernatural returns Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
