- Robbie Amell and Rachael Taylor have been cast as the leads in ARQ. Tony Elliot wrote and will direct the post-apocalyptic, sci-fi thriller to be released by Netflix that takes place in the not-too-distant future when oil has run out. More specifically, the film follows an engineer (Amell) who must face off threats to preserve a technology with the potential to supply endless energy—but that technology has led him and his pals to experience the same day again and again…Shooting is scheduled to kick off this winter in Toronto. - Maggie Grace has signed on for 478, joining Arnold Schwarzenegger and Scoot McNairy (more on him below). Elliott Lester is directing the revenge thriller, which Darren Aronofsky’s Protozoa Pictures is producing. The story centers on a man (Schwarzenegger) who goes after the air traffic controller (McNairy) at fault for the plane crash that killed his wife and children. Grace will assume the role of the controller’s wife, and production is ongoing in Ohio. [The Wrap]
- Scoot McNairy also recently boarded 478, and claimed a role in The Legacy Of A Whitetail Deer Hunter. A Jody Hill comedy with Josh Brolin and Danny McBride, Hunter tells the tale of a sixth-grade boy who just does not want to bond with his father on a hunting trip. Scott Rudin, McBride, Hill, and David Gordon Green’s Rough House label are producing. [Deadline]
- Robert Knepper is joining Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. Edward Zwick is directing the film (due Oct. 16), and also co-wrote the script with Richard Wenk and Marshall Herskovitz. The sequel shows Reacher (Cruise) head back to his old Army unit’s headquarters, where he’s accused of a 16-year old murder. “Knepper plays Gen. Harkness, a retired general-turned-CEO of a private military contractor firm,” Deadline writes, adding that the character is “a man of power, experience and authority who thinks he’s the hero and is not afraid to do what’s necessary.” Cobie Smulders, Danika Yarosh, Aldis Hodge, Robert Catrini, Patrick Heusinger, Austin Hebert, and Holt McCallany will also appear in the film. - Jon Voight and Steven Bauer are set to star opposite Teri Polo in JL Ranch. Charles Robert Carner is directing the modern Western drama from a script by Harley Peyton. The story focuses on John Landsburg, an aged rancher and former sheriff at risk of losing his family ranch when an old enemy claims Landsburg doesn’t own the property. Polo will play Landsburg’s daughter named Rebecca, with Lee Purcell, Kevin Lingle, Shane Woodson, and Cory Scott Allen in the film as well. [Deadline]
