J.C. Chandor will direct and produce an English-language remake of The Robber, the 2010 Austrian thriller about a marathon runner who uses major races as a cover to perpetrate bank heists.

FilmNation, which partnered with Chandor on All is Lost and A Most Violent Year, will finance the film and distribute it worldwide. Chase Palmer will write the screenplay, based on director Benjamin Heisenberg’s film and Martin Prinz’s original novella.

“Growing the scope and scale of Benjamin’s extremely original film into a kinetic, elevated action-thriller is exciting for us to undertake with our new partners in Europe and our friends at FilmNation,” said Neal Dodson, one of Chandor’s producing partners at Old Bull Pictures. “We’ll be using the film, the novella, and the true story it’s based on to make a smart, fast-paced, and extremely entertaining movie.”

Chandor is also attached to Triple Frontier, the South American action film that Johnny Depp and Tom Hanks have been rumored to be circling.
