The BFG poster debuts

Sophie may not quite stand as tall — literally — as her new friend in the latest poster for The BFG, but that won’t stop the two from working together to save the world from some less friendly giants.

The new poster for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book offers a look at newcomer Ruby Barnhill standing on the toes of the titular Big Friendly Giant (voiced by Oscar nominee Mark Rylance). In the film, the BFG brings 10-year-old Sophie to Giant Country and shows her Dream Country — where he collects the magical dreams that fill children’s heads at night — but her presence bothers some of the other less friendly giants, like Bloodblotter (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement).

To protect themselves and the world from these bigger unfriendly giants, Sophie and the BFG’s journey takes them to London, seeking out the Queen (Penelope Wilton) to help restore order. “It’s a story about friendship, it’s a story about loyalty and protecting your friends and it’s a story that shows that even a little girl can help a big giant solve his biggest problems,” Spielberg said in a press release.

The BFG, which also stars Rebecca Hall and Rafe Spall, and comes from a script written by the late Melissa Mathison (E.T.), will hit theaters on July 1.
