Don's Plum: Leonardo DiCaprio film released online

UPDATE: Don's Plum was pulled from Vimeo on Wednesday. "Vimeo has removed or disabled access to the following material as a result of a third-party notification by Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire claiming that this material is infringing: Don's Plum," a note on Vimeo's website reads. The film was removed at 3:55 p.m. ET.

EARLIER: The bizarre story of Don's Plum, a low-budget mid-'90s indie film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and his so-called "P—y Posse" compatriots Tobey Maguire and Kevin Connolly, has a brand new twist. The film, which has long been kept away from the public thanks to legal action on behalf of DiCaprio and Maguire, has been released online for free by its producer Dale Wheatley.

"Although the film remains banned in the U.S. and Canada," Wheatley wrote in a statement on the film's site, "as a writer and producer I am making the film available under my copyright for the sole purpose of promoting my work as an independent filmmaker." Wheatley first released the film to his site last month.

Since the '90s, DiCaprio has worked to keep Don's Plum out of theaters. That was the original intention of the movie anyway, or so he claims. According to suits filed by DiCaprio and Maguire, they appeared in the movie, which takes place over the course of one night in a diner, as a favor to their friend under the condition that it never screen in U.S. theaters.

Robb and the film's producers have refuted that claim.

In addition to DiCaprio, Maguire, and Connolly, Don's Plum also stars Jeremy Sisto and musician Jenny Lewis.
