Super Bowl 50: Jason Bourne trailer debuts

Matt Damon is back in the first look at Jason Bourne.

The brand new teaser, which debuted during Sunday’s Super Bowl, features the very first footage released from the fifth film in the Bourne franchise.

“I know who I am,” he declares in the action-packed clip. “I remember everything.”

Jason Bourne touches on politically-driven issues ranging from cyber warfare and the recent recession; a nod to the politically-driven plots that have come to define the spy thriller franchise.

“It feels current with what’s going in our world. You’re always creating an alternate reality with Bourne but you want to feel like it’s our world,” Damon told EW in an interview late last year. “If you look at the first three [movies], they are films that are a product of the Bush presidency. Thematically, they touch on things people were talking and thinking about during that presidency. This one feels like a movie about today.”

Based on the bestselling novels by Robert Ludlum, Jason Bourne features the title character having survived the twists and turns of the adventures tracked in 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum.

“It’s less that he has some kind of greater mission of ulterior movie, and more that he’s always trying to get to the truth about himself and his origins, and how he got to be where he is,” Damon said. “It’s not like he has the superhero skills to go stop a train from crashing into a building.”

Featuring returning actress Julia Stiles as supporting character Nicky Parsons, Jason Bourne also features new cast additions in the form of Black Swan actor Vincent Cassell, Oscar winner Tommy Lee Jones as a seasoned CIA agent; and breakout actress Alicia Vikander.

“You have to do something great and new, and Alicia is our great and new,” Damon said of Swedish actress joining the franchise. “One thing about these movies is that the casts are so good. I always feel so amazed at the people we get. If we have any kind of formula, it’s hiring the very best actors we can to fill out these roles and Alicia and Tommy Lee are two absolute heavyweights.”

Helmed by returning director Paul Greengrass, Jason Bourne is scheduled to hit theaters July 29. See Damon slip back into character as Jason Bourne in the trailer above.
