It was a match made in singing heaven.

During Thursday’s American Idol, where five people were eliminated from the competition, former Idol winners and contestants (Scotty McCreery and Ruben Studdard, among others) teamed up with 24 current hopefuls to try to convince the judges to move them to the next round.

Season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino was paired with La’Porsha Renae, and while it was clear they were kindred spirits from the moment they met, when they took the stage to belt out Ella Fitzgerald’s ‘Summertime,” the judging panel couldn’t stop gushing.

“It’s mind-blowing,” Jennifer Lopez said about getting to see performances of such high caliber on the reality show. She told La’Porsha, “Hearing you next to her just shows us how amazing you are.”

Usually critical Harry Connick, Jr. agreed with Lopez, and Keith Urban, who immediately gave the duo a standing ovation, also couldn’t stop praising their performance. “It was like an unstoppable force,” he said.

La’Porsha clearly made it through to the top 19 — next week, five more will get eliminated, bringing the final group down to 14, which is when America gets to start voting people off each week in Idol’s 15th and final season.
